About Lourdes

Lourdes

Nestled in the hills in southern France, Lourdes is a small town, where in 1859 a young girl, Bernadette Soubrious, had visions of the Virgin Mary. In total, Bernadette had 18 apparitions of Our Lady in which she was given messages of love and the calling to prayer. During the 9th apparition, Our Lady told Bernadette to scrape the earth with her hands. When she did so, a spring was uncovered and Our Lady told her to drink of it and wash herself with the water.

Ever since, people have visited the shrine for healing and prayer. There have been many documented miracles of the sick being cured by bathing in the waters of Lourdes, but also, people find blessing in feeling cleansed and rejuvenated in their faith and in their hearts.

Now, hosting up to 5,000,000 visitors per season, pilgrimages and individuals come from all over the world to give thanks to Our Lady of Lourdes, deepen in prayer, turn their hearts towards God and take the waters.
